Of course, when you are on holidays in Paris there are some very obvious places to go such as the Eiffel tower, Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame. However, some of my favourite places are somewhat off the beaten track and amazing places to explore.
Ile Saint Louis
This is probably my most favourite place to visit in Paris. This little island is in the centre of Paris and feels somewhat untouched by the bustling city around it. If you plan to go to Notre Dame take a stroll onto the island next door and spend time in the cafés and shops that are there. It is a great place to people watch.
Shakespeare and Co bookshop
Not too far from Ile saint Louis is an English bookshop called Shakespeare and Co. It contains many old books on many old shelves, on two old floors of an old building. Even if you don’t have an interest in books it is a great experience all the same. They have also recently opened a cafe next door you want to have a coffee while you read your purchase.
Science Museum Paris
Going from something old to something new, La Cite des Sciences et de L’lndustrie which is the biggest Science museum in Europe will leave you in awe as you go through the different demonstrations and exhibits. Is a great place for kids but also for adults too.
Food tour of Paris
Parisian food can be hit or miss. There are restaurants in Paris that are very popular but usually for a particular item. Parisians will literally travel to a restaurant and order the famous soup on the menu and not have anything else. This can lead to difficulties as a tourist as you may go to a restaurant expecting a delicious meal and leave there unsatisfied. The best way to get around this is going on a food tour where a local guide will take yo to all the best spots and get to taste different foods along the way. There are so many companies that offer this which you can find here
Night boat tour
One of my favourite things to do is to take a boat trip down the Seine. There are many boat tours that offer food. Often times the trip is overpriced and the food is not great. go for a general tour instead without food and make sure it is at night where you can view the most famous Parisian attractions come alive with lights.
