The Dirty Dancing Remake we’ve all been waiting for is finally here

It seems like every few years there are always rumours of a Dirty Dancing remake. Everyone gets their hopes up and the speculation about who will play the main characters becomes outlandish. I remember back in the early 00’s when one of these rumours popped up, Robbie Williams and Britney Spears were tipped to play the iconic characters of Baby and Johnny Castle. Of course this never came to be (phew).

The Dirty Dancing remake is ACTUALLY happening

Well fear no more, the rumors this time are true, it is actually happening.  Dirty Dancing is back with a brand new remake of the star-crossed lovers in Camp Kellerman

ABC have finally confirmed they are making a TV movie of the legendary Dirty Dancing classic. Starring Abagail Breslin as Baby Housman and Colt Prattes as the heart-throb Johnny Castle. Sarah Highland who I love in Modern Family is playing the role of Lisa Housman, Baby’s sister. Will and Grace’s Debra Messing will also be featuring in the re-make taking on the role of Baby and Lisa’s mum Marjorie Houseman. A number of the actors starring in the movie posted some great behind the scenes photos yesterday giving us a sneak peek of the movie.

Whats happening in the new version?

The three-hour Dirty Dancing remake is said to be slightly different from its original classic., Expect more character development and exploring more social issues of the time such as race, socio-economic issues and women’s rights in the 1960’s

Dirty Dancing is one of my favourite movie soundtracks of all time. For fans of the songs, you will be pleased to know the iconic songs such as “Do You Love Me, “Time of My Life,” “Hungry Eyes” and “She’s Like the Wind.” will be making a comeback.

Some unanswered questions will be resolved (hopefully)

Have you ever wondered what happened to Johnny and Baby after that amazing dance number? Well apparently this new Dirty dancing remake will also answer this question. The remake will show the audience what happened after the original movie ended. Did Johnny and Baby run off into the sunset? Was it just a summer fling after all? Did Baby end up joining the Peace Corps? Let’s just hope that ABC don’t mess it up. Let us not forget the disaster of Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.

Set your TV box to record as the new Dirty Dancing remake is due to be released on ABC on the 24th of May
