At the end of our two week holiday in Vietnam, we stayed in Ho Chi Ming city for three nights.
Ho Chi Ming City is a lot more western than other parts of the country. It has tall developed buildings and certain western cafes like, McDonalds and Starbucks.
When we were in HCMC We stayed in the Signature hotel. It was in a good location and the staff were very friendly .The room was very large and had a jacuzzi bath.
We did a day excursion to the Mekong Delta where we visited a factory that makes coconut toffees and snake wine. We also went on a boat trip along the canals which was great fun.
Cu Chi Tunnels
Another trip we did was a day to the Cu Chi Tunnels. This was very interesting to learn the history and find out more about the war. I got the go through one of the tunnels which were incredibly small. It was 100 metres long and for the last 10 metres, you had to crawl through the tunnel.
The War Museum
When in Ho Chi Ming I recommend visiting the War museum. It gives detailed accounts of the war and also had machinery used by the Americans. If you are going there I recommend eating at this beautiful Mexican restaurant called Khoi Thom. It is a two-minute walk away from the muesum. This place was so tasty we went there twice.
While we were in Ho Chi Ming, it was Vietnam Independence Day. They had a huge fireworks display which was amazing. For this, we went to the Bitexco tower where we were able to get a good view of the fireworks.
Places to eat/drink
We had dinner in a lovely Indian restaurant called Babas Kitchen. The food was delicious and really good value. It is quite busy so you may need to wait for a table. There is a good few bars in this area so it is a good place to base yourself for a night out.
If you really want to treat yourself take a trip to the Moët bar in the Caravelle hotel. This hotel is quite famous as many journalists stayed in there during the Vietnam war.
For a treat, they have champagne and tasty nibbles. We went there after watching the fireworks in the Bitexco which was a lovely end to our two week holiday in Vietnam.
